Does it keep you awake at night?

After reading "What Makes a Great Teacher?" an Atlantic Monthly article by Amanda Ripley, I noted several points:

  1. Great Teachers raise the bar, setting high goals for students.
  2. Great Teachers are never satisfied with themselves but constantly seek to be more effective.
  3. Great Teachers partner with families in educating learners.
  4. Great Teachers focus on learning.
  5. Great Teachers plan, plan, and then plan some more.
  6. Great Teachers teach 24/7, not just in a particular room during a particular time of day.
  7. Great Teachers find a way even when there are no resources.
  8. Great Teachers constantly check for understanding, and reteach when necessary.
Do you have what it takes to be a great teacher? Does it keep you up at night thinking about your students and how best to lead them? Are you doing the above eight things? Or in the words of someone else I know, are you earning your salary?
